Filecoin’s Tuk Tuk upgrade boosts security, enables faster transactions, enhances smart contract functionality, and improves randomness access, making the network more secure, efficient, and user-friendly.

The Filecoin community has reached a new milestone with the release of Network v24, named "Tuk Tuk." This upgrade introduces significant improvements, enhancing security, performance, and usability across the network.
Here’s a look at what’s new, explained in simple terms so everyone—technical or not—can easily understand.
This upgrade strengthens the network’s security by requiring miners to stake a higher minimum amount through sector initial pledges. By increasing the commitment from miners, the network discourages malicious behavior and keeps everyone playing fair.
The Filecoin Ethereum Virtual Machine (FEVM) now supports the MCOPY opcode, making it even more compatible with modern Solidity-based smart contracts. This enhancement unlocks more advanced decentralized applications (dApps) for the Filecoin ecosystem.
Smart contracts can now directly access beacon digests from the chain’s history. This provides decentralized applications with a secure and verifiable source of randomness—perfect for applications like lotteries or randomized decision-making tools.
October 23, 2024: Calibration UpgradeThe network ran a test deployment to prepare for the full upgrade.
November 20, 2024: Mainnet UpgradeThe Tuk Tuk upgrade officially went live, introducing these enhancements to the entire Filecoin network.
January 2025: F3 Full Mainnet ActivationFollowing successful tests, F3 is expected to roll out network-wide, making transactions consistently fast for everyone.
