Introducing the KSM / DOT Recovery Mode

Sometimes Polkadot and Kusama users accidentally send DOTs to Kusama addresses and KSM to Polkadot addresses. By doing so, their transferred funds get blocked in incorrect addresses belonging to a different network. Sometimes Polkadot and Kusama users accidentally send DOTs to Kusama addresses and KSM to Polkadot addresses. By doing so, their transferred funds get blocked in incorrect addresses belonging to a different network. In the case of purely “browser based keys”, this is immediately recoverable, however, hardware wallets have additional levels of security. For this reason, Ledger apps do not allow signing with cross-chain public keys.
In order to help the community, we are collaborating with multiple stakeholders to develop a solution so that these users can retrieve their blocked funds. The PRs for this recovery mode are already accepted.
The KSM / DOT Recovery Mode
To retrieve blocked funds, we have developed the KSM / DOT Recovery Mode. This recovery tool will be operational on Ledger devices in the next few hours (PRs are already accepted). The this recovery mode will allow users to unblock and recover KSM that got accidentally sent to Polkadot addresses, and vice versa (retrieve DOT that got accidentally sent to a Kusama address).
The KSM / DOT Recovery mode will be available on ledger devices in the near future, you can follow its progress on this Github page and this Github page.
We would like to remind you that this will be the only official solution to recover funds that got stuck between Polkadot and Kusama. Please be aware of potential phishing scams!
